Michael J. McCarthy, Esq.
Mr. McCarthy is one of the preeminent criminal and civil
litigators in Western Colorado. Mr. McCarthy graduated
from the University of Colorado School of Law and spent
almost three years serving as an Assistant District
Attorney. He subsequently became a name partner in the
Boulder law firm of Taussig, McCarthy & Snyder where he specialized in criminal and civil litigation.
Mr. McCarthy moved to the North Fork Valley in 1992 and after initially practicing out of his barn, establish a solo law practice on West Bridge Street in Hotchkiss. Over the last thirteen years, Mr. McCarthy has represented numerous individual and business clients in a wide variety of matters throughout the Western Slope area. Mr. McCarthy's experience in criminal matters ranges from successful first degree murder defenses to misdemeanor and DUI cases. Mr. McCarthy also has extensive experience in corporate litigation and real estate disputes, including adverse possession and prescriptive easement cases. Mr. McCarthy is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Steven L. Schultz, Esq.
Mr. Schultz recently re-located to the North Fork valley to
join McCarthy, Schultz and Vaughn. Prior to coming to Colorado,
Mr. Schultz practiced law for eleven years with the Wall
Street law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, where
he worked closely with corporations, financial institutions, insurers and individual clients in a wide range of civil and criminal litigation matters.
Mr. Schultz has experience in handling complex commercial litigation, personal injury and medical malpractice claims, business and corporate law, construction litigation, real estate disputes, bankruptcy claims on behalf of both debtors and creditors, divorce and child custody matters, and health care law. Mr. Schultz graduated with honors from Brooklyn Law School, where he served as an executive editor of the Law Review. He
is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and New York
Michael Vaughn, Esq.
Michael Vaughn attended Indiana University, where he obtained a B.A.
('95) in political science and Native American Studies.
He then attended the University of Tulsa College of Law where
he obtained his J.D. ('98). Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Vaughn
practiced law with Kennedy Childs, & Fogg, P.C., in Delta Colorado for two
years and 7 years in the active duty Air Force as a Judge Advocate
(JAG) and Special Assistant United States Attorney. While in the Air
Force Mr. Vaughn practiced in the areas of government
procurement/contracts, environmental law, labor law, and criminal law. He has
experience in more than 100 trials. Mr. Vaughn's current practice
consists of criminal law, family law, employment law, and estate
planning. Outside the practice of law, Mr. Vaughn enjoys hiking, skiing,
cycling, and golf. He is married to Danielle Vaughn, has a
daughter, Meadow Ann, and two huskies, Sampson & Dawson.
